Application Procedure
The CASA Melbourne program is open to students from all academic disciplines in good academic standing whose minimum grade point average (GPA) is 3.0 on a 4-point scale. Students should check with the specific institution through which they apply (see below) for their internal application process and requirements. Once approved by that institution, students will be given more information by the institution about how to directly apply to Melbourne for admission.
Students from CASA Member Institutions should apply through their own study abroad office:
- Brown University
- Columbia University
- Cornell University
- Dartmouth College
- Georgetown University
- Harvard University
- John Hopkins University
- Northwestern University
- Trinity College, Dublin
- University of Melbourne
- University of Pennsylvania
- Vanderbilt University
Students from CASA Associate Member Institutions should apply through their own study abroad office:
Each member institution determines which CASA program is appropriate for their own students.
Students from non-CASA member institutions
Applications from visiting students from non-CASA member institutions may be considered on a space-available basis. Students should apply through Brown Office of Global Engagement for CASA Melbourne, as Brown University co-manages this program with the University of Melbourne.
Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) and Visa Requirements
Once your application for CASA Melbourne program has been accepted, you will receive a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) from the University of Melbourne via email. This CoE is essential for applying for the appropriate visa to enter Australia.
CASA Melbourne participants from the US and European Union will need a valid visa to enter Australia. Most incoming students will apply for a Student Visa (sub-class 500, non-award sector). Students can apply for a student visa once they receive the Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) from the University of Melbourne via email. Your visa application must be submitted as soon as possible after receiving your CoE. Application processing times can vary greatly depending on time of year, volume of applications, which home country you're coming from and your previous travel history. Some students may also be requested to complete additional application requirements such as medical examinations, which will come at an additional cost. More information can be found on the Australian Government’s Department of Home Affairs website.
